Could Probiotics Boost Brain Health?

We all know that probiotics are good for you, right? They help our guts, sinuses, and much more. But as Sixty and Me states, you might find it surprising that probiotics can also help with brain health and memory.

Sixty and Me explains the concept of Brain-gut Axis, a connection between the bowel and the brain. The two organs work together when it comes to our stress response. It gives the term "a gut feeling" a whole new meaning! It seems that despite the relatively recent term “Brain-gut” axis, researchers and everyone else had an inclination there was something there for years.

The Sixty and Me article continues to explain that we have 10 times more bacterial cells in our body than our own. Scientists refer to this massive group of organisms "macrobiota" and which specific bacteria lives inside differs from person to person.

Yet these little germs are actually the ones responsible for this brain-gut connection. Some scientists believe that this is where "fight or flight" and relaxation sensations come from. Because of the connection between stress and brain health, it's simple to see that we need to make our germs happy for a healthy brain. You should always choose foods that high in probiotics including yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, and even pickles are good food choices.
